Somehow I have lost the cover of my Hobby Van’s circular washroom rooflight. Since discovering this I have searched high and low for a replacement cover ( 600mm x 600mm ) I emailed Hobby Germany who referred me to U’K’ Dealers. I spoke to Hobby Derby who passed me onto Stockton who told me it would have to be a whole unit replacement and not just a cover at a cost if over £800 plus labour for a “pig of a job!”

I have tried rooflight companies, plastics companies, motorhome repairs etc etc to no avail. I appreciate that at this time many of the people I have tried to contact will not actually be working.

I have read threads on general motorhome sites where other hobby owners have had the same problem.

I am just hoping that a Hobby Member can give me some advice.

    Any advice gratefully received.

      Hi again,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried them all but had no positive response. Caravancrazy responded with a request for photos which I tried to send off but have had no further communication since.

I then remembered an old friend who lived locally and was a trained engineer.  He came round to have a look and after a long discussion suggested we try purchasing a 640 ml diameter plastic sheet to fit over the existing perspex which would rise and fall with the venting of the washroom but seal up the aperture when travelling etc

I could not directly order some plastic, there is a world shortage but one company are receiving an order next week and have asked me to ring in a request 2 days before delivery. Here’s hoping!

      Hi Nick and Ruth,

Many thanks for your excellent list of possible helpers!

I tried them all and got some joy out of  caravancrazy. Now I’m waiting for a reply from them after sending photos. O’Leary’s is near me so I’ve already visited them but they could not help.

I’m going to go to a local craftsman on Monday, lockdown permitting, so will keep you informed.

Hope to meet up sometime in the future.

      Thanks again,

      Dave Mattinson

      David,

You might try O’Learys who run a caravan and motorhome scrapyard near Hull. They are on 01482 868632, or Leisure Spares in Boroughbridge , N.Yorkshire, on 01423 320009, as they do Dometic/Seitz roof light spares. There is also The Caravan Centre in Blaenavon, 01495 792700, or EECO Ltd, who make windows to order. Caravanwindows.net in Kidderminster on 01299 250273 or Nationalcaravanbreakers.co.uk on 01492 512880 might also be worth a go. I haven’t used most of these people myself, and I don’t know if they are working at the moment, but members have mentioned them.

We had a window problem with our previous van, in that a barn jumped out and cracked a side window, and it took me 18 months to get a replacement. Hobby UK in Preston finally had one made for me, but it was the devils own job to get them to do it, and we drove around for all that time with a window covered in gaffer tape.

Hope this helps, and good hunting

      Nick
