Has anyone a preference for where we could hold a pre Christmas meet in late November / early December.
There is one enthusiastic member, Ronnie Dyson, who attended the recent AGM currently researching a site in Derbyshire but more suggestions, anywhere in the country, would be welcome.

Kenn and I would like to thank Ronnie for finding a lovely spot for our Christmas meet and to Dave for organising pitches etc. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with everyone again. Kenn has now had his op. so job done. Will be bringing him home tomorrow. All seems to have gone well so onwards and upwards. A very happy Christmas to everyone and see you in the New Year.

A big thank you to Ronnie, Dave and Sue and any others who were involved in organising the most excellent pre Christmas meet. We had a very enjoyable few days. What a great attendance! Cheers and happy Christmas. See you again sometime next year.

Apologies but we now can’t join you until Thursday 8th Dec. A last minute charity fundraising handbell concert has been arranged and I can’t let the others in the band down by not being there. We will join you just as soon as we can on the Thursday. I appreciate that we may be asked to pay for the night we had booked; we have no problem with needing to do this. Looking forward to meeting up again

In confirmation of my phone call, I am sorry to say that all available pitches have been booked and paid for by way of a deposit.
Good luck with your driving licence, do keep us informed.

Hi Ronnie / David
I would love to come to the Christmas do but everything is dependent on the DVLA. My license is due to be reissued on 30 November but if the DVLA take as long to review my application as it did to review my medical submissions it could well be in the mid 2017’s.
I will keep you informed of any progress.

Hi Andy and Denise,
Your pitch, as with all pitches, to include electric hook up, has been reserved for the nights of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, departing Saturday 10th December.
Please follow the advice above and forward a cheque (in your case £22) to Sue Dalley. Obviously, you do not need to include a meal pre order form.
Looking forward to seeing you there.

Hello to all members who have requested a camping pitch and meal at our pre Christmas meet.
Ronnie has asked me as treasurer to manage the pitch and meal bookings on his behalf.
The venue are now requesting the details of a single credit card to secure the pitches. As we currently have 18 of their 29 available pitches held on reserve I do not consider this unreasonable. As such I have provided the details of my personal credit card.
The pitches are held on reserve until Wednesday 23rd November. Any cancellation after that date will incur a £22 surcharge, which will obviously be charged to my credit card. The venue is also requesting that we each complete a meal pre order form and pay a £5 per head meal deposit to be with them by 23rd November.
Here is a link to the Christmas fayre menu menu-grouse
Download and print two copies then make your selections.
Ignore the advertised £10 off your next visit. We will not qualify.
Accordingly, I am requesting that each member or couple proposing to attend, send their completed meal pre order form and forward it with a cheque to the value of £32, made payable to :
Independent Association of Hobbyists
and forward it to our membership secretary at the following address:
Mrs S Dalley,
IAH Membership Secretary,
17 Cubbington Road,
Please ensure that you pre order form and cheque arrives with Sue before 23rd November or your pitch reservation will be cancelled.
Once all cheques are banked, the club will write one cheque to cover the pitch reservations and meal deposits. Sue has kindly agreed to collate all meal pre orders which will be forwarded to the venue. Do keep your own copy in case you forget what you selected !
Each member will be responsible for settling their own meal bill, which may include drinks, obviously with £5 per head being deducted from each bill.
Each member will be responsible for settling their own camping bill, obviously with £22 per van being deducted from the final camping bill.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Hi Ronnie, Has a place been kept for us as I said on the 28/7 we were in. We have been out of the country since 2/9 and have not always kept up. We would require electric for Keith’s CPAP machine and be with you from Wednesday 7th for 6 days.

Hi Sue and Kenn,
Your place has already been reserved and no it is not necessary to confirm your date of arrival just yet.
Obviously if there are any changes or updates to the current arrangments I will post further information at that time.

There are another 3 remaining reservations available and more can be be reserved if necessary but time is running out.

Hello again to everyone,
I am currently on site at Hemmingfield Cattery having spent last night at The Grouse and Claret, Rowsley on my way here.
The Grouse and Claret have a have had a price increase since my last visit and it is currently £22 per night to include electric hook up.
The deal I have discussed with regard to our proposed pre Christmas meet for the dates arriving anytime after noon on Wednesday 7th December 2016 and departing anytime before noon on Wednesday 14th December 2016 is:
Stay the full seven nights at a cost of £100 (equivalent to £14.28 per night) to include electric hook up and be pitched on hard standing. There will be a 3 for 2 offers on at that time of year, so if you can only stay 3 nights for instance, expect to pay £44, 6 nights £88, and 2 nights, obviously the full £44.
As mentioned previously, there are showers, toilets, washing up and cassette emptying facilities on site.
I have been given a few flyers that detail their Christmas Fayre menu which will be available for handout at Malvern should you require one but I am assured it is already downloadable from their website. Briefly, 3 courses £16.99 2 courses £14.99. This is not a special camping deal, it is available to everyone.
The daily menus at The Grouse and Claret which I previously provided links to, will still be available at that time of year, including their £6 menu and their breakfast menu. Not sure whether all of these special menus include 20% discount for campers. Do check yourself before ordering.
As a reminder, there is a bus stop external to the site. The Peak Shopping outlet is a stroll across the pub car park, The Cauldwell Craft Centre is across the road and Chatsworth is but a short drive. Chatsworth are promoting the transformation of the house with their Christmas displays, beginning 5th November 2016. Look at http://www.chatsworth.org
Denby Pottery Village is close by as is Haddon Hall.
Peak Rail offer special events and through December a Christmas lunch menu is available should wish to dine on the train. Their schedule includes special events over the weekend of 10th and 11th of December, when we propose to be there. Their events calendar can be viewed at http://www.peakrail.co.uk and does offer a 10% discount for groups of over 15 people.
The town of Matlock is 4 miles away, Bakewell is 4 miles in the other direction and Buxton about 5 miles further than Bakewell.
I have not done any research with regard to other Christmas festivities in the surrounding towns but a web search would surely reveal this.
Hopes this proves useful.

Thanks Ronnie for doing the research for our pre-Christmas meet. Kenn and I would be very interested in coming along. Anytime late November or early December would suit us. Would be good to get some sort of discount though.

Many thanks for your very informative post.
The venue sounds great and we know from past visits to the area that there is plenty to do and see. The black pudding from a butchers in Matlock is especially nice. Dave thinking of food again !
Almost anytime suits us.
Once again, many thanks.
July 25, 2016 at 5:04 pm #3139Tony FlandersParticipant
Sounds good, we would be very interested in going, the end of November beginning of December would suit us, even better if there was a deal to be had.

Ronnie, this looks good to us. Any idea of dates yet? We can’t make Saturday 26 November but other dates around then are fine.
July 24, 2016 at 9:07 pm #3137
Hello to all members,
As promised at the AGM and in an earlier post, I have researched my proposed venue for our pre Christmas do.
It is a pub site in Derbyshire and is called the Grouse and Claret in Rowsley DE4 2EB.
It currently has 29 hardstanding pitches with electric hookup and water on every pitch.
There are loos and showers of course plus free wi-fi.
As I remember, there is a bus stop external to the site.
I appreciate that the current charges of £20 per night are a bit more than we are used to but I am assured that negotiation is possible plus there is a 3 nights for 2 offer on during the time of year we are considering.
There are a couple of other pubs really close by which could also be researched with a view to a Christmas Fayre type meal.
The towns of Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock are nearby as are the historic sites of Chatsworth and Bolsover Castle.
Their website can be viewed at http://www.grouseclaretpub.co.uk which includes links to their current menus, including a £6 menu, a light bites menu, a breakfast menu and a main menu.
Are there any members interested in this before I pursue it any further ?

Hi Andy and Denise,
Thanks for your post but I personally am unable to see the details or perhaps a photo of the site that you have provided.
Can you check what you are able to see in your post since you submitted it.
This is probably not the same site, because it is a pub, but I have had a phone call from Ronnie Dyson earlier this evening who has visited it this weekend. It is The Grouse and Claret at Rowsley, and Ronnie has made provisional enquiries regarding a pre Christmas meet.
Ronnie is going to post further details, dates, prices, suggested menus and what is to do in the area, in the next couple of days when he has confirmed all of the information he gathered this weekend.
