As we all know the Shelter is a great asset on rallies as it provides a venue for group get-togethers usually involving the Club’s tradition of cork popping and can opening.

It’s one downside is that it doesn’t have any !!! – which is fine when it’s fine but for those of us on blood thinners it can feel a bit nippy as night falls or the wind gets up – resulting in party pooping to the warmth of our portable homes.

We could alleviate the problems by purchasing Coleman Sunwalls which clip neatly onto the existing frame. 2 standard Sunwalls and 2 with doors and windows would cover all options and cost under £100.

The club committee will need to approve the expenditure and would like to hear the views of members by response to this post before a decision is made.

So do let us know what you think…………

Check out this link for details of the Sunwalls :

Keith and I would be willing to carry the tent at some stage but as we are not going to the Lincoln Show it will be next year before we can help.

      Hi everyone

We are now looking at buying a lighter version Colman event shelter.  The weight would be approximately 15kg which is considerably lighter than our original one.  This shelter would have sides attached so theoretically much quicker to erect.  Although we have had response for people offering to transport this, we still need about 3 more.  Hopfully the lighter weight might encourage more to come forward.  Kenn will then draw up some sort of rota.  Would like to know before we go to Malvern so it can be purchased.

We are happy to take it when we can but, as yet, we don’t plan to go to Lincoln and certainly will not make the Xmas do.

      Does this help?

Thanks for offers to help transport the Coleman …. That makes 4 of us so far …. If we can get another one or two then I think we can organise a rota going forward.

Presumably then the committee would approve the purchase of the new Coleman.

Hopefully this can happen in time for me to get it delivered so that we can bring it to Malvern – with Tony and Jan taking it to Lincoln – by which time I will set up the rota accounting for known future rallies.

Look forward to getting more willing “shelter minders”

      See y’all at the Ukefest

      Hi Kenn

We can take it from the Uke Fest to the pre Malvern meet & then onto the Malvern show if that is any good?

      Thanks

We could collect it at Ukefest and take it to Malvern but we aren’t able to go to the pre and post Malvern Show meet (only the Malvern Show dates) due to Grandparent school holiday duties both immediately before and after Malvern. Not sure this offer is any help to you.

Still can’t believe we didn’t make it to the AGM but most days Steve’s sciatica isn’t nearly so bad now so we are looking forward to meeting up with everyone again at Warwick.

As you all may know, our beloved Coleman Shelter (Scene of many sociable events) is “no more” following a failed attempt to become airborne at the Prestatyn Rally.

At the recent AGM it was agreed to replace it if enough members are willing and able to store and to transport it between Rallies.

With Malvern coming up in August, it would be good to get matters sorted soon so we can acquire a new shelter in time to party.

      So here are the facts:

      • The 4.5m Coleman is contained in it’s zipped bag measuring 1m x 35cm x 22cm + a second small bag containing the side panels …. Total weight is 27kg.
      • Logistics are complex as whoever leaves a Rally with the Coleman has to bring it to the next one or arrange to hand it over to someone who is.

As Sue is happy to handle the Membership Secretarial duties single handed – I am happy to take on the role of “Rally Shelter Logistics Co-ordinator” (which I believe brings with it an Honorary position in the Club’s Committee Structure)

So please respond soonest if you can help. I would like to get at least 5 members on the list. Can you also indicate which of the future Rally you are attending so that the “Rally Shelter Storage & Transportation” chart can be created.

Looking forward to more Happy Hours under cover

      Kenn

      Well done Kenn and Sue,

Will look forward to assisting in assembly at The Lawns.
Once assembled I reckon warm coats and wooly hats may be required.
We have a howling gale here at present and the electricity has been off for about 3 hours.
Generator has come in useful again.
I imagine there will be quite a few spoilt Sunday lunches locally.

Christine and I are in agreement that yes they would be an asset all year round. However, we are reminded that it is the members’ money that we are proposing to spend so it would have been good to have seen more comments from other members.
In the absence of any adverse comments in the next three weeks, I / we are of the opinion that you should place the order and if you wish to take the full kit to The Lawns in early December then that decision will be left to you.
If there are any members out there who wish to support or object to the purchase, then please let your thoughts be known before Wednesday 18th November.
I can assure that the funds will stretch to this purchase.

We think these would be an asset, not only to those on blood thinners, provided the finances can afford them.
