We have a Hobby Toskana with the round shower tray common to many Hobby’s; this had previously cracked and repaired by a type of Speedcoat substitute before we bought it.
The shower tray has again started cracking and has to be either replaced or Speedcoated properly, (£300-400) or do we go the preferred option of putting in another shower base.
Putting in a new shower tray two quotations; first £2,000 (don’t think they really want the job), second a bit better £1,300, but both seem a awful lot of money for a job we could probably do as a DIY project for not much more than getting it Speedcoated.
Understand the toilet will have to be removed, but then not sure if the surrounding shower room furniture will also have to be taken out as well which of course makes it much more complicated.
Wanted to know if anyone has attempted this project, or knows anything about replacing the shower base, and would it be better to go through the club for ordering a new shower tray from Hobby?

Hi all – regarding the cracked shower base – was quoted £500 for a new unfitted base from Hobby, then decided as a last call to ES Hartley – their price for a new base fitted was £850, it had to be done in Liverpool – when looking at the figures it was £350 more than a new base plus diesel/petrol & campsite fees

Took the Toskana there towing the Smart, so was able to drive back and then a week later go up again and we spent a week in Liverpool

Fully recommend ES Hartleigh’s they did a great job and looks original, they were friendly even storing my trailer, and know they were short of space but they still did it

Did I make the right decision, would have loved to have replaced the base myself and fairly confident could have done it, but for £350, thinking of all the problems plus things like tubes of sealant etc. and as my wife says things always go back with at least one screw missing when I repair anything

Just one thing more, the coating on our shower base was not Speedcoat which is quite thick and very tough, if you are planning to get it coated would make sure it is the proper Speedcoat it is expensive but would have saved replacing the shower base.

We have a Toskana with a cracked tray. We were quoted approx £1000 by ES Hartley our nearest Hobby dealer.

But the MMM technical guys pointed us to Speedcoat. It cost us £350 and took 6.5hours to complete. Preparation is key to ensure bonding.

It looks a neat repair, only time will tell if it lasts but we were given a guarantee.

MMM say they are going to feature our article in the next issue.

There is a small article in MMM October 2017 page 178 about cracked shower trays.

I believe Speedcoat are the leaders in this sort of repair have a look at there web site. I think they will come out to you, or one of there agents will.
But it isn’t cheap but replacing the shower tray will not be cheap, and what they disturb in the process. You can have it put back to the original colour, ours is grey, to match the cupboard door.
Our other van need this doing so I did some research, and decided to sell the van, and add this cost to a new one.

Sorry I can’t be more help.

      Hi Richard
We haven’t had this problem (yet) so not sure what to advise. Hopefully someone else will point you in the right direction.
