I thought I would ‘test the water’ for an idea that I have been mulling over as I am not sure how many members use their vans over winter.
Cofton is quite a large site with an indoor swimming pool, a couple of spa rooms and a restaurant. It has a nice walk through woods to Dawlish Warren and a bus stop by the entrance.
Steve and I have been there and I think it would make quite a good cold weather site for a meet. To have a dedicated area we need ten vans. I am happy to organise it but I need to get some idea if there would be enough members interested.
So members…….who would be up for a trip to the West Country? You need not make a firm commitment but give me an idea if it is a time of year and / or venue you would be interested in going to.
Have a great meet next week.
Happy Christmas and New Year.

Pleased everyone enjoyed the short break.
With regard to the photos, no, Dave and Christine as with all other members, do not have access privilege to post them into a gallery.
If whoever took the photos would be kind enough to forward the originals to our club photographer, then after he has worked his magic on them, I am sure they will appear in all their glory, in a new 2016 year subfolder entitled Dawlish Warren.

We agree, Sue and Kenn, a lovely few days with great weather and excellent company. We are glad you liked the site, as we discussed, it would be horrendously busy in high season but it’s good at this time of year when the weather can be unreliable. See you in Ambleside, enjoy Prestatyn, so sorry we can’t join you.

We are assuming that these pics should go onto the 2016 gallery (not yet created) but not sure how to do this. Am sure Dave and Christine have the expertise!

meant to add the the attached pics but had to compress them.
thanks to Maureen & Steve for suggesting the venue – good choice – particularly liked the indoor pool

- We will miss you!
- We will have a good time.
- We will catch up with your adventures another time. Ambleside perhaps?

Sorry to say, especially at this late stage, that we will not be able to join you. We have only just returned today from our (internetless) trip to India – without the van – and find that something else has come up, which we can’t get out of.
We are sure you won’t miss us and will have a good time!
Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
Jean and Mike.

Looking forward to meeting up, fingers crossed for good weather.
We’ll book a table for eight on Friday evening.

We’ve just booked pitch 55 hard-standing so we are close to Antony and Dee. No super pitches left in that area, and will be arriving on Thursday 10th March for 4 nights. Looking forward to it. Will be our first trip away for a while. So Maureen and Steve book us in for meal on Friday please.

Just retread your post. I read it as you hadn’t been to Cofton for a few months but I now realise that you mean that you haven’t been on the Hobby Club site for a few months. Woops, apologies. Cofton has pretty good indoor facilities so if the weather is poor there are warm indoor spaces to sit in as well as a pool and a couple of steam rooms ( at a small extra charge). There is a very nice walk through the woods to Dawlish Warren that runs directly from the site.

Hi Peter and Jacky
Cofton are bound to have pitches available. As we didn’t have sufficient numbers to ask for a dedicated Hobby area (you need a minimum of ten) we booked ourselves in from Thursday 10 March until Sunday 13 March. We are on pitch 6 ( or is it 5?!). Anthony and Dee are on pitch 56, which is opposite us and they are arriving on the Friday. It is possible that Kenn and Sue will also be joining us and I am not sure if Jean and Michael still plan to come. We will book a table in their cafe by the pool for Friday evening for however many Hobby Club members there ends up being. We will reserve a table when we get there on Thursday afternoon.
It would be lovely to have a small group. We are fairly new to the club so we will look forward to meeting new people. Cofton are aware that there are a few of us who would like to be pitched near each other. If you decide to join us I suggest that when you phone Cofton you asked to be pitched near pitches 6 /56. You have obviously been there before so you know to bring swimming costumes if a dip or a laze in one of their steam room ‘floats your boat’. Sorry about the pun.

Looking forward to meeting you

Just to let you know that we have been to Cofton and have booked our pitch. We are on 56 and the receptionist thinks you are on 6 so we should be opposite other. Dinner sounds a good idea so can we leave it to you to book the table.

I hope you both get well soon. Yes, roll on some sunshine. We keep getting hints of better weather then it becomes grey and dull again. We were planning to go off somewhere in the van tomorrow but the forecast is poor yet again. Sitting by the woodburner seems a better option at the moment. Looking forward to meeting up once again.

Sounds like a good idea. We still haven’t booked our place. We’ve both been struck down with some horrible virus which has been with us for about 5 weeks on and off which means we haven’t really been on the ball. Roll on Spring and some sunshine. Looking forward to seeing everyone

What nice news that you are joining us. We are fairly new members. We look forward to meeting up with you on the Friday. I can book us all a table in their cafe for a meal together that evening if you fancy that as an idea.

We are new members having just bought a Hobby Premium Drive 65fl.
We only live 3 miles from Cofton so are going there at the weekend to book ourselves in from the Friday night, 11th.
Look forward to meeting you.

Thank you for that. Will be on it next week. We plan to stay a little longer as we will be visiting friends in Tavistock also but will book from the 10th. Will try and get a superpitch. Hopefully this awful wet weather will have passed by the time next month comes. Looking forward to getting away for a week.

It is nice news to know that you are planning to join us. The web site is www.coftonholidays.co.uk. then go to Touring and Camping. As there didn’t seem interest from ten vans I haven’t pursued booking a separate meet area. We are already booked in from Thursday 10 March, leaving on Sunday 13th March. If you look at their park map you will see a line of yellow/orange rectangles against a hedge on the right, these are the super pitches which have water and drainage on each pitch. They are also close to the dog walk. We have booked one of these pitches, although when we were there last time the non Super Pitches 15 – 21 and 56- 60 were also very good. Church Road is mainly an internal road, so nothing to worry about. When you book on line there is a special request box, we asked to be near the dog walk but I guess you could also ask to be pitched near us! We will understand if you are on the other side of the site! Their pub won’t be open but their cafe will be, this is upstairs next to the indoor pool.
We look forward to meeting up with you again.
Maureen, Steve, Lola and Bill (the last two, in particular, love the walk on the public footpath through the woods to Dawlish Warren)

Maureen and Steve. How do we book ourselves in at Cofton. Is there a website or tel.no. we can use to book?

January 19, 2016 at 5:22 pm #2686
We will still be going to Cofton on the dates we have said. To have our own area for a meet we needed ten vans and there clearly isn’t sufficient interest for that to happen. We will be there so please come and find us, Reception can tell you which pitch we are on. We will be walking in the woods above the site and be having a meal in their restaurant and swimming in their heated pool and laze in their steam rooms.
It would be lovely to meet up with anyone else who decides to come, however, we will all need to book ourselves in separately. They may put us near each other if we ask.
If no one else appears we look forward to meeting up again in Ambleside.
Maureen and etc

Sorry to be so late in replying but this passed us by while we were away.
Yes, we would like to come, arriving on the Friday.
There are only 4 vans here so far and you say you need 10. When are you likely to be able to confirm either way?
Hope it goes ahead

Nice Idea M, S, B & L – We would be keen to go to Dawlish and would probably like to stay longer
We can discuss further next week – sorry you won’t be there

We can only make the dates I suggested but another option is to stay on the same site for longer (as you point out, there is lots to do in the area) with someone else being the Marshal for the dates we can’t make. But as you suggest, someone else might come up with another venue that could be added to this one.

We would love to join you there weather permitting. We tend not to be as tropical as Devon here in North Yorkshire and we could still have snow here in early March. It is a fairly long travel for us for such a short stay, so unless you can possibly extend the stay or indeed you / us / another member can suggest a second venue in the same area to make the journey worthwhile then at the moment we would have to decline your very thoughtful offer.
I will certainly do some research in the next few weeks, hopefully others (don’t be shy in coming forward) will also take the time, to procure a second venue and on that basis, as I have previously said, yes we would love to join you there.
We did have a two week stay in Dawlish two years ago and it was brilliant. In fact we were there the week before the train line got washed into the sea. Nearby Teignmouth is worth a visit, as is Shaldon just over the bridge from Teignmouth. Exmouth is over the estuary and Sidmouth is very quaint.
