    Hello you Hobbyists,

In between all the fun, and the drinking and what have you, in Aberystwyth and in Malvern we talked to several of you about our plan to spend the winter in Spain and Portugal, and at least three other vans ( and their peoples) said that they were also going to be there, or would like to be. This is not us organising an offshore rally, but we already have a vague plan to meet up with Pam and Tony somewhere near Cadiz. Anybody else fancy escaping from a long grey winter? We plan to be in Conil, a lovely small beach town between Gibraltar and Cadiz, for about two months from just before Christmas, on a good site.

      Hi Nick and Ruth,
We have booked with the campsite to be there from the 7th January 2020. See you there if not before.

      Hello,

A quick supplementary. If, when you email Rosaleda to make a booking, you direct your message to Ester, she will know that you are one of the Hobby group, because I have told her that we are coming. She is Dutch, but has been in Spain for a long time, and is efficient,

      Hello again,

Further to my earlier message, the plan for some of us to get together again in Spain over the coming winter is taking shape. Ruth and I are planning to stay again at Camping La Roseleda, in Conil de la Frontera, which has an English language website at info@campinglarosaleda.com . Lin and Mike first told us about la Roseleda, as they have been several times, and we have now spent the last two winters there. The site is well set out, the facilities are good and clean, there all the usual facilities, including a bar and restaurant, and people who opt to stay for a month or more pay less than €10 per night. The campsite is about 20 minutes walk from the town, and from a marvellous long sandy beach. The town is properly Spanish – there is no Irish pub, no all-day breakfasts, and most of the people we meet are local. Conil is almost as far south as you can go on the European mainland, and most of the time we wear T-shirt and shorts. Last winter things were organised in a looser way than normal rallies, in that people come and go as they please, and we don’t all spend all day every day together, but Pam and Tony, and Christine and Peter, joined us for meals out, or at each others motorhomes, we went for walks together, we went to processions, and to a flamenco club, we went on a bus trip to a pueblo blanco, we walked to Cape Trafalgar, and just generally had fun. If this appeals, please join us – we already have five vans who are planning to come. Ruth and I plan to be there from before Christmas until early February. Book direct with the campsite – they will hold a pitch for you without a deposit, as long as you confirm a few days before you arrive. Any questions, please ask,

      Nick

We would like to THANK Nick Nick & Ruthie Baby for letting us know about this great campsite in Conil. We’ve both thoroughly enjoyed catching up with you on the way down & at the site, also lovely catching up with Peter & Christine. We’ve got lots of memorable moments, loads of laughs, copious amounts of wine/sangria/gin drank! nearly forgot the sherry baby!
Look forward to the next one, highly recommended to all Hobbyists!

      Adiós por ahora

      Jim,
      Thanks for your reply.

Over a bottle or three yesterday we came up with a whizzo plan for a different kind of rally. Who do I talk to in order to get the go ahead? Who is rally co-ordinator now (we missed the AGM, and I haven’t seen the minutes yet?)

PROGRESS REPORT FROM THE ANDALUCIAN SUB-SECTION OF THE HOBBY CLUB.

There are three of our vans here – ourselves, Pam and Tony, and Christine and Peter, and we are all talking of booking next year. I’ve vaguely tried to post a picture of us all having fun in Vejer, a pueblo blanco which we visited on the bus last week, but have failed, but to paint a picture of life here, we usually wear shorts and T-shirts until the sun goes down, yesterday it rained for the first time since Christmas – we were having a dry January – and we are all turning brown, on a good campsite 20 minutes walk from the town ( a proper Spanish town, with no all-day breakfasts or Watneys Red Barrel) and from a glorious beach, all for less than 10 euros a night if you stay for at least a month. We don’t do stuff together every day, but there’s always somebody to go for a bike ride with, or to have round for a meal, or whatever. Again, this isn’t us planning a rally, we haven’t talked to Sue and Ken or anything, but we are planning to be here next Christmas/January, and then probably going to Morocco for a month or so. If any of this tickles your fancy you would be very welcome,

      A belated Happy New Year,

      Nick and Ruth

      Hi Nick and Ruth
Peter and myself are hoping to meet you at some point at Conil. We’re getting restless already as we’ve been home for a week (: Peter’s got all the maps out and the ACSI manual.
      Cheers

      Hi Nick and Ruth,
That sounds like a great plan. Something we would do in the future as we are presently down in South Africa and are seeking to come back sometime in January to March house sitting.
Have a great time and we look forward to seeing you both sometime in the future.

      Hi Nick and Ruth
Sounds like a good idea to avoid the winter. We would have liked to come along but have just sold our house and in the process of decluttering (a job well overdue). We were thinking of not buying anything else for the time being and just motoring away in the sunset. In which case, Spain and Portugal sound promising. Wont be this time however. We hope you have a really lovely winter season down there and see you both next year. Take care
      Kenn and Sue
