After months of rumours and then promises I am pleased to report that our windows were replaced on 18/19 April. Although the windows had been with E S Hartley for some weeks, we chose to wait until a new rooflight had been delivered to them, as ours had failed in France last year. This way we were able to have everything fixed in one go.
None of our original windows, nor the rooflight, ever let in any water but they had all distorted after exposure to the moderate heat of southern France. The rooflight ballooned internally so much that I was unable to close the blind. I removed one of the two small bungs and after a couple of seconds of escaping pressurised air, the internal plastic (acrylic?) layer shrank back enough to allow the blind to be closed, but it never did return to its original flat shape.
The two jobs took just a day and a half to complete and the result is very pleasing. We shall be giving the new-look windows a thorough testing later this month as we are going off to France again for an extended stay.
